I'm overweight, I ate 1,000 calories today, and i'm craving sweets!?

I'm 20 years old and about 70lbs overweight. I ate a little less than 1,000 calories today - and i'm craving sweets!! All day i've eaten: 4oz Dannon yogurt 4cups of lettus with 4tbs french dressing** 1 cup of rasin bran cereal 1/2 cup of 2% milk 1/2 cup egg beaters scrambled with 1/2 green pepper and a little onion 2cups of mixed vegetables (plain - steamed, no butter or anything) **(I usually dont eat salad dressing, I usually dress my salads with vinegar - but we were all out of red wine vinegar - all we had was white vinegar - and the only other dressing was blue cheese) I'm craving something sweet. I've done so good today I dont want to ruin it. What can I have thats sweet, satusfying, and not going to kill me? (a packet of oatmeal?) I also went for a walk today, about 20 minutes. I dont usually exercise but I've been starting to walk. I know that a lot of people claim that I'm not going to see results just walking, but I think its better than sitting home watching TV or being on the internet. I have a super busy life. I'm a full time college student and I work full time. most days I'm out of the house from 6am-10pm at work and school - and then i'm usually strapped down with homework. I've started walking 4 miles 2 days a week - and when I have time I go for shorter walks around my neighborhood (like today, I finished with work, finished my school work - so i went for a walk) Today is the first day i've eaten like this. I have not lost any weight yet (that I'm aware of). I'll weight myself again in 3 days (I find that doing it every day is discouraging, yet doing it once a week - i feel like i give myself too much room to say "well i didnt do good today, and theres alwasy tomorrow"...so i've decided to weigh in every 3 days.

  1. everything that you are doing is a great start to your goal. At least you are prepared to change your lifestyle and eating habits. That is a big battle won! Keep it up!!! few simple tips Losing weight steadily is the best! 1) Eat more steam food, lean meat, vegies and fruits 2) Cut out the junk food, soda drinks and snacks 3) drink plenty of water / green tea 4) Exercise - Like you say, by walking you have made a start and that is more than what most people aren't doing now. Overtime, once you know you are ready, start jogging. And look at combining weights and cardio into your program. you can look at alternating upper and lower body exercises without rest, say bicep curls, then lunges , rest and repeat. With cardio, try sprinting 100m, jog 100m and repeat. Here's a review link to a program that suggest great workouts and healthy nutrition http://www.squidoo.com/burnthefat-feedthemuscle/ 5) Have 5-6 healthy meals a day(1 plate portions) to keep your body satisfied 6) if you have cravings drink water or eat fruits here's an article to a healthy diet http://lose-quick-weight.blogspot.com/2007/08/lose-quick-weight-eating-healthy-diet.html http://www.squidoo.com/dietsthatworkquick/ 7) have an action plan for long term goals, start off with small goals and increase it gradually over time. Good luck
  2. If you are like me, one of anything is not enough (once I have one, I have to have MANY). So, I started to drink water with fresh lemon and lime and if I need a bit of sweetness, I put a packet of Sweet and Low -- Try it.....or I'll have some grapes. Good luck!! Sounds like you are on the right track!
  3. You can lose weight walking. I did it. Eat some fruit to help ward off your desire for sweets. Did you just start a diet? Have you lost weight or are you just maintaining your weight?
  4. Buy some splenda, not sweet and low!!! I cook oatmeal (not instant) and sweeten it with splenda. I went to Walmart and bought their brand of sugar free Iced tea with lemon. It is sold with the crystal light boxes. Premixed tea. It comes in small tubs that you mix with water. It says sugar free but it is sweet and always satisfies my sweet tooth.
  5. Great so your starving yourself to lose some weight. Which will slowly work but you will only gain the weight back and then some. You need to look into a full fledged Atkins diet. Eat all you want as long as there are no carbs. You can even use baking chocolate, Splenda and half and half to make a wonderful chocolate that is almost carb free. I started 2.5 years ago at 210 I am now at 140 trust me it works if you don't cheat. Exercise will also help but I have not done much in the last 1.5 years. The best part is, you will never be hungry and you will lose weight.
  6. How about a piece of fruit? Eating some grapes, fresh cut pineapple, cherries or watermelon almost always helps to curb those sugar cravings when I am looking for something sweet. I realize that these have a higher sugar content than other fruits, but they also have a high water content and provide antioxidants and vitamins, and are MUCH lower in sugar, fat and calories than a bowl of ice cream or a candy bar. I find that the more I eat sweets and carbs the more I crave them, especially if I have a soda or bread. Eating these fruits seem to satisfy the cravings. I also don't eat artificial sweeteners, and products made with those tend to be unsatisfying, empty calories that spur on more cravings anyway, so I can't recommend anything like that. Sounds like a healthy day, but remember not to drop below 1200 to 1500 calories a day or your metabolism can slow down. Good luck!! P.S. I have had GREAT luck losing weight by walking. I am skeptical of those that denounce it. It does increase your heart rate, it is WAY better than sitting around not exercising and it is a great start toward increasing your energy and building up to more intense exercise.
  7. You need to eat at least 1,200 calories per day. How about raisins? or a dried fruit? cereal? I have some low cal fudge bars.
  8. Jess, you sound like you are serious in losing weight, so have you been to a doctor for info? You can also eat many types of flavored JELLO, it's sweet! I think you'd do good by looking for a heath food store and nutrition specialist! Have a good night! Jimmy.
