How long is too long for a bottle of white wine to remain in the fridge (while unopened)?

I've had a bottle of Pinot Grigio in there for at least 6 months and need to serve white wine tomorrow, so the other option is putting in a bottle of Chardonnay that I have. Should I offer the Pinot Grigio and just mention that it's been in there for a while and to let me know if it tastes a little funky because we can switch to the Chardonnay? (I think this particular person likes Pinot Grigio, but I don't know how they feel about Chardonnay) The bottle that's been in there for 6 months is still sealed.

  1. Throw out the pinot grigio, a day or two tops for some wines. A good white wine is about ten bucks, ask the clerk for help pairing the wine with what you are serving.
  2. 1hr....you should drink it right away
  3. <> It's sealed it will be fine. Just toss the chardonnay in there too. Just in case you run out. You can never have too much wine.
  4. Pinot Grigio should be consumed when they are fresh and young. That said what is the vintage? Is it Italian? Most of the new world (Cali, Oregon) white wines are not holding up so well with time. The best thing to do is buy a back up. Try the first bottle and if it is bad, open the new one. You said this person prefers Pinot Grigio. So stay with what you know will work. As for paring your food to Pinot Grigio remember if it is a light body wine try Shellfish, Quiche or any thing light. If you have a Pinot Grigio that is Medium body go with a Chicken of white meat dish. A few choices are Santa Margherta = $22 (Over priced) Riff = $18 (just as good if not better than Santa) Banfi = $16 (solid producer) Ecco Domiani = $12 (good for the price) Good luck. P.S Please don’t give up on Chardonnays there are so many styles to try. As a starter try a light chard with no oak. They should be crisp and fruity and very easy to drink. I believe you would be pleasantly surprised.
  5. Well, if it is unopened, it can remain indefinitely! Serve it with confidence.
