White Wine?
What is a good inexpensive dry white wine to cook with? I know nothing about wine and I sent my husband to the store, he was supposed to ask for help, anyway he came back with pinot grigio. Good or Bad?

- Pinot is a good wine to drink. For cooking I usually use an inexpensive Chardonay.
- good... Pinot Grigio style: light-bodied, often lean; light in color; neutral, sometimes spritzy flavors, crisp and acidic.

- Sauvignon Blanc is also a good wine to cook with.
- Take a look at some of the box wines that are available. While many may scoff at such a suggestion you will be well served to give it a try. The benefit of the boxed wine is that it will not deteriorate as fast as an open bottle of wine. The boxes contain sealed bags of wine that do not allow for exposure to oxygen. If you look carefully or ask a clerk at a larger wine store you should be able to find a drinkable boxed wine (**first rule of cooking with wine-- never cook with wine you would not drink).
- For savory dishes, it's typically important to use a *dry* wine, whether it be white or red. Pinot Grigio is an excellent dry wine.
