Wine at the Reception?
I believe I am going to pick 1 white wine and 1 red wine for my wedding reception on Saturday. Does anyone have any suggestions on what type of wines to get? I mean if you were to pick one kind of white wine and one kind of red wine, what would satisfy the most people? Chardonnay and Merlot, Pinot Grigio and a Cabernet, etc.... Thanks!

- No brainer, Zin and a Chardonnay
- I would go with Pinot Grigio for your white and Merlot for your red. I feel as though they are both the most common. Good luck & Congratulations
- The problem with chardonnay is that some folks don't like the oak hints. You may wish to go with a sauvingnon blanc or even a fume. As to red, merlot or cab. Some folks find a zin is too heave and a burgundy too "common". Being who I am, I'd like a claret
- I agree with a sauv. for white... it's between a chard and pinot & a red zin
- hey it's your wedding do what you like best
- Go to a wine tasting and pick what taste best to you and the foods you taste it with, its your wedding you should have what you like right?
- I have been a bartender as well as a bride. To tell you the truth, unless you are having a heavy Italian food them, don't even bother spending that much on red wine. Just a few bottles. White Zin and Chard are the biggest requests with a mile distance to the next. Bartending weddings, especially in the summer those were by far the most requested. But do make sure you have a few bottles of red. Congrats.
- For teh white it depends what you're looking for and what type of people will be drinking it. Casual wine drinkers might prefer a slightly sweeter white and a riesling might have the best appeal. Having said that, a lightly oaked Chardonnay is difficult to beat. Chateau Ste Michelle out of Washington makes some great Chards. They have one from their Indian Wells vineyard which is excellent and moderately priced. For the red I think a Syrah or Shiraz migh be best. Good flavor but not overpowering like a Cab or Zin might be, although personally I love them both. Greg Norman Estates has a 2004 Syrah which is flat out excellent and also very affordable. Hope this helps.
