A good red and a good white...?

My husband and I are going away ALONE for the first time since our 7-month-old was born. I was wondering if anyone could suggest some really good wines we could bring along with us. Something in the $20/bottle range. I like Pinot Grigio, Shiraz, Cabernet.

  1. A great white wine is Elk Cove . It also comes in red. They both are very great. Have a great time. They both run around $20.00
  2. Lambrusco is a fantastic choice in my opinion. It's a red wine and a bottle by Reunite in around $20 or a tad less. Congrats on the baby, and congrats for finding some alone time. It's very important for a healthy marriage!
  3. For the white I suggest La Crema Chardonnay For the red, there is a great Shiraz by Yellow Tail and it's very reasonably priced. Hope this helps :D
  4. I had a delicious Oregon Pinot Gris not too long ago, and I think South American reds far outshine similarly-priced Australian wines (like Yellow Tail, etc). Ask your wine shop guy for his favorite Argentinian red (mine: Trapiche Malbec) and an Oregon Pinot Gris or Pinot Grigio. Also, don't ignore champagne as a great drinking wine. It's not just for New Year's Eve -- many champagnes or sparkling wines pair wonderfully with food. Besides, it's a special occasion! For $20 or a tiny bit more, you can get a tasty California blanc de blancs to toast your first post-baby trip! Try a Mumm Napa sparkling wine.
  5. I LOVE Rosemount Shiraz as well as Cavit Pinot Grigio. I prefer red over white, so the rosemount is my favorite, its not too sweet or too dry.
