Wine Information

What wines should I bring to dinner at a friend's house (seared trout)?

I should probably bring two bottles. The liquor stores are closed today, so this is what I've got: RED: - Pinot Noir - Merlot - Cabernet Sauvignon - Shiraz WHITE: - Cabernet Blanc - Pinot Grigio Recommendations? OH! And someone is a vegetarian and having some spicy tempeh stir-fry. Oh... Wrong section... Whatever, answer anyway!

  1. I'd go with white wine. Either is fine. WHITE: - Cabernet Blanc - Pinot Grigio
  2. Well first of all, I commend you for having that much wine laying around your house! I've never been able to manage that. It all ... evaporates. :) I would go for the Pinot Noir and the Cab Blanc. I personally think that Pinot goes with everything, even Hershey bars.
  3. they say white wine goes with fish well...
  4. try a full flavored smoky viognier from france or a heavily oaked premium napa chardonnay ... or a spicy wine such as a dry gewürztraminer .. you could also pair the fish with a red burgundy or pinot noir ..
  5. Why stand on ceremony? Ask your host which wine would suit them and the menu better. One brand may be organic or there could be some other factor that you can't even anticipate. Enjoy.
  6. Pinot Grigio with the trout. I personally would go for the Merlot, but it is pretty strong flavored for fish for most people. If you need the second bottle for while you eat, just take the two whites. If one is for after dinner then pick what you like.
  7. White wine with fish -- one that is "dry" (not sweet) because unless you know how this fish is cooked, you can't know if it will go well with a sweet wine. Dry wines are more versatile. I think Pinot Grigio would be good but that's just because I had one recently that I liked a lot.
  8. Typically I would recommend a good oaky chardonnay with grilled trout. And I would recommend a gerwerztraminer with the spicy veggie. If you are doing both, I suggest a compromise of sauvignon blanc, the citrus-like ones from CA rather than the grassy ones from NZ.
  9. Oh my God! When you'll understand that the choice of wine is referred to the food you are going to eat! Generally, (but very generally): Red and black wines (at a cellar temperature, opened 10 minutes before eating, depending if it's a calm one or 'vivace' one (lively)) with some starter, some strong first plate, and meat White wine, (always fresh from refrigerator, take it off and open15/20 minutes before eating) with some light starter, fish and cheese Rosato (rose one) (the same as white one): with salads, some delicate plates and cheese Champagne, Spumante or sweet wine: (fresh and opened at the moment): with cakes, sweets and ice creams. You have to read with attention the labels and follow their advices. So you'll never make mistakes. OK? If you need some other advice, write me to my Answers email. Ciao. Italiano D.O.C.
  10. You can't go wrong with a good Merlot.
