Can i use white wine instead of white wine vinegar?
I have a recipe that says white wine vinegar, i dont have any and the shops are shut. I have white wine, cider, and normal malt vinegar, will any of these do?

- Yep - should be fine, and if you've got a lemon slice it and squeeze a smidge of it into the wine before you use it. If not - should be ok, but really depends on what you're making
- Mix a bit of malt vinegar with white wine - should do the trick. About 50/50
- I agree with the mixing 50/50. Basically, vinegar is wine in which the sugar has turned into acid.
- White wine won't work instead of white wine vingegar, but other vinegars will. Wine and vinegar are too different.
- White wine will work wonderfully if in a salad dressing, or in a sauce, or for cooking meat.
- I wouldn't substitute white wine. There's no acid in it. Not knowing the recipe it's hard to tell if you could simply use lemon juice or lime juice. I would say the malt vinegar, but use less of it or water it down a little, especially if your recipe is for a delicate sauce. If it's a dressing, lemon juice or lime juice. But straight white wine will not give you what the recipe is calling for.
- I think white wine vinegar is more like normal vinegar rather than white wine so I would add some of the malt vinegar and it should be fine. Maybe you could add a little white wine aswel. Good luck!
- Either should be fine, - I'd choose in the order you give.
- as long as you leave some wine for the cook to drink - who cares!!!
