I drink alot of wine.. but dont know anything about it!?
I tend to generally favor white wines with high alcohol content haha but I am looking to actually KNOW what im drinking from now on as opposed to getting the cheapest wine with the most alcohol (hey.. i graduated college a few yaers ago.. i still have old habits) My question is... Are there any good websites for learning about the characteristics of different types of wine? I tend to like sweet wines.. as opposed to dry wine... any recommendations for a type that i would like? any help is appreciated!

- wines.com is good. Some community colleges offer classes on wine tasting and how to pair wines with food.
- you could try Riesling, lake Niagara, and boxed (believe it or not) mountain Rhine
- I prefer Chardonnay or Pinot Griggio. These are both mildly sweet. I know nothing about wines, but as I buy different brands, I learn. Basically, if i don't like the flavor, I don't buy that brand again. I buy organic ones most and try to look for ones that are sulfite-free. If you want something really sweet, buy Polish mead (honey wine) or Takara Plum wine, which is like drinking schnapps.
- A really good website is http://www.tastings.com
- i like sweet white wines also. my fav is gewurtziminer. i also like reisling, johanasburg... i learned lots by touring a winery!! they're fun, free, you learn, and get free wine at the end!
- You would like sauvignon blanc. Thats my fav white. Try reds! Lots of sweet reds, alot of wineries make mixes of different reds together, so good. Just check out the labels, they give you a discription (not just the alcohol %, lol).
- then you are a wino....nothing wrong with that by the way.
- Rule #1 - Drink what you like and don't worry what anybody else rates a wine or says about wine. Rule #2 - Price often means nothing, there are a ton of good wines under $15, if not under $12. Some websites to teach you about wine: Great course: http://www.wineloverspage.com/taste/ Interesting videos by a wine guy who says just drink what you like: (you'll either love him or hate him!) http://tv.winelibrary.com/ Also - trying new wines and learn what you like, learn different tastes. Some good sites for trying new wines: http://www.mywinesdirect.com (smaller selection of nice wines under $25) http://www.klwines.com (big selection of all types of wine). Wine is fun, enjoy!
