Wine Information

What kind of wine can I give a 56 year old Dr. who likes to go wine tasting?

I don't know much about wine so I need suggestions he obviously know about wine and I don't knwo what to get I'm on a $40.00 budget.

1. I don't think I would get him wine then. How about a book about wines or vineyards? Maybe a nice set of wine glasses with his initial on them?
2. You could visit a local winery, select a couple sample bottles of last year's vintage for him. Or, you could perhaps check out the website of The Splendid Table, http://splendidtable.publicradio.org/, an awesome NPR radio program. If you type "wine" into their search box, you'll find all sorts of recommendations and recipies!
3. Try a Carmener, from Chile. or a Malbec from Argentina, if you can find a Bourdeaux From France, look for a 1er cru, he will like it A Champagne is always a great gift, try a brut, but remember it must be From Champagne region in France (is like a promise that he will be celebrating something soon)
