How do you make White Wine and Red Wine? Do you use different types of grapes? My Mom is in the Wine Business and she always brings home half empty bottles of wine and I always wonder What you do to make White Wine, and Red Wine. Do you add artificial coloring? Thanks! I Never got around my mom to ask. She is always working.
What was the cheap wine that won out over the expensive ones in a Famous wine tasting test a few months ago? I remember in the news and on the internet there was this cheap $2.00 a bottle wine that won in a wine tasting contest over the more expensive wines. Some even up to $200.00 a bottle
Wine for a chicken and swiss cheese dish? I'm not a fan of drinking wine, but I enjoy the flavor it adds to dishes when it is used in the cooking process. I'm planning on making a chicken dish with swiss cheese for dinner tonight and would like to substitute a dry white wine for the water my recipe calls for. Problem is, I have no idea what to look for. I know the general rule is not to cook with a wine you wouldn't drink. Whats a girl to do if she doesn't drink wine in the first place?
How much red wine should I drink every day to reap the health benefits? How much and of which variety of red wine will best promote the beneficial properties (resveratrol) of red wine? I believe one glass of wine = 5 ounces. And are any of these characteristics diminished in a cheaper wine?
How much wine should I allow for each person at a tasting event? I'm planning a wine tasting event as a fundraiser. We'll be serving 4 or 5 different wines. How much wine should be purchased? Since it's a fundraiser, we don't want to lose money by ending up with unopened wine. Please give quantities such as 1 bottle of each wine for every 5 people, 10 people, etc.
Is a Blush Wine too sweet to cook with? I have a delicious blush wine made from Muscadine grapes that I bought at a local winery I visited recently. I bought a case and love to drink it but wanted to experiment with it as well. Is it ok to use a kind of sweet wine to cook with? I was thinking maybe a creamy garlic wine sauce with pasta??? Any other suggestions?
What would happen if you drank red wine cooking sauce without cooking it to kill the alcohol? You hear of putting red wine cooking sauce or white wine cooking sauce on food. What would happen if you didn't cook the wine cooking sauce and drank it like you would regular wine? If I just took a bottle of red or white wine cooking sauce, and poured a glass, would I be drinking alcohol? What would happen to me? Would it be bad for me?

Thanks.
How to clean white wine stain from wood? Yesterday at a friends house i put a glass of wine on a nice wooden table and it left a circular mark where the glass stood. It was white wine, but some of it must have gotten on the bottom of the glass and stained the table. It is a really nice table, so i feel horrible for ruining it, is there anything i can buy at the store to clean it? The wood is dark color, maybe cherry or something like that. We tried using water and rubbing it, helped just a bit, but the spot where the wine stood for a few hours is still very visible. Please help, thanks.

What could i use in place of cooking wine? Also how old do you have to be to buy Cooking Wine? I'm 20 years old and i like to cook with wine, and i dont live at home anymore so i cant buy any. And a few of my recipes ask for red wine, or sherry. Sometimes white wine, but mainly red wine. I was woundering if there was anything i could use in place of the wine or sherry? Also how old do you have to be to buy cooking wine? At my grocery store the cooking wine is by the vinegar, so would i be able to buy it?
What red wine is relatively affordable and will benefit from a few years' aging? I am turning 21 this November, and while this means I don't have a long history with or knowledge of wine consumption and storage, I have greatly enjoyed the few glasses I've had with family friends and relatives over the past few years. Because I am not a huge partier, I'd like to commemorate my turning 21 by purchasing a bottle of wine (preferably red) on that day, then save it for a few years to finally open on another birthday. I have no specific plan, I just like the idea of buying a bottle of wine on my 21st and drinking it on some future birthday, as soon as the next year or as late as 50. Being only 20 I obviously don't have the grandest budget for this, but I was hoping someone would have a few bottles or vintages I should look into--or just a particular type of wine that is always likely to improve with moderate aging. Thanks so much!
How can my yeast start making rice wine? I am trying to make rice wine with 2 simple ingredients (steamed glutinous rice and yeast. It's been 2 weeks already and no wine have been made. I can definitely smell it but not a drop of wine visible. The grains seems dry to my perspective. Can it be be cause it is undercooked or that I used the traditional steamer instead of the rice cooker? How can I fix this and allow yeast to produce rice wine?
What is a cheap and decent tasting wine to serve at a wedding? I don't want to spend more than $10 a bottle of wine if possible. We will be serving the wine out of carafe's so if you suggest boxed wine that is fine too--they will not know, unless they are wine connoisseur. And yes, I realize you can get much better wine for a higher price, but I don't want to spend $50 for a bottle of wine. I'm planning on serving wine with cheese before the whole reception gets started.
What is the best way to store wine without a cellar? I have just started to collect wines. Rather buy expensive wine on sale. I kon't know anything about wine, it just started calling to me. I don't think I have had a glass of wine in 3 months. I do not have a wine cellar or wine rack. Should wine stand up or lay down during storage? What temperture? Should I keep it in the refridgerator? I love looking at the bottles. Have I become weird?
What is a good wine or champaign to give for the holidays? Im not a wine drinker so Im just wondering what a good wine or champaign would be to give for the holidays? Im also going to be sending out some holiday sweets, so I would like the wine to be a desert wine.
How to sell these wine tasting tickets? My soccer team is having a fundraiser, the tickets are $20 and we make $15 off of each ticket. The wine tasting includes wine to taste, appetizers, and desserts. How should I ask people to buy them without coming off as pesky or annoying?
How do i get wine out of a light pink sweat shirt? See, i had a taste of my parents wine at our house and it dripped on my pink sweater shirt. I can't tell them that it was wine because then i will get in trouble. How can i get the stain out completely?
Does drinking water after drinking wine make you drunker, or get you drunk again, and why? I've been a fan of wine for a long time. I have many friends that say wine is great, because after drinking wine, you can drink water, and get drunker or drunk again. Or after a night of drinking wine, in the morning if you drink water, you'll get drunk again. Being an avid wine fan, I have yet to ever experience this amazing phenomenon. So, is it true, and if so, why does it work.
What is a common sweet tasting wine I can order while out at a restaurant? I cant stand those wines that are so bitter I cant even drink them, most wines are undrinkable to me. What is a deliciously sweet tasting wine thats easy to drink? Im going out tonight and would like to try some! Thanks!

What wine should I serve with my creamy lasagna rollups? I am having company and am new at this wine thing, so I was hoping you could help me. I am serving an herby lasagna roll-up recipe that has lots of fresh veggies, no meat and ricotta/mozzarella along with pasta inside of it. It has a somewhat strong herb (basil, oregano, etc...) cream & mozzarella cheese sauce. What wine would you recommend? White or red, and any particular suggestions that you think will go well with it? Any ideas for the meal as far as appetizers are fine too, but I really need to know about the wine mostly. I want to clarify that it's not a marinara sauce at all, it's a cream sauce. It does have fresh tomatoes as one of the ingredients, but it's not your typical lasagna. It's not "tomatoey" at all! :)

What kind of wine should I order for a winter lunch date? I have a date at a wine and cheese restaurant this week. I live in Florida and the place is outside. It's not cold at all yet, but I was wondering what type of wine is appropriate for the season so that I can look classy and educated. Additional info: I don't like super dry wines or tart wines. I will probably get a salad with grilled chicken in addition to a cheeseboard that includes 3-4 cheeses, bread and fruit.
How do you start with a wine company? How do winers start their selling? What are the steps of selling wine? I want to know a lot of things? You firstly need good land to get the winery plants. You also need workers machines and everything like that. How much money does the owner of a winery make (someone who makes a good wine and sells a lot) Please tell me any info about starting a wine company?
How much is a bottle of red wine in a nightclub? I'm thinking about drinking red wine in a nightclub when I visit Northern California (probably in San Francisco). I wonder whether I should get a bottle or 4 glasses. Don't know anything about red wine so probably will just get the house red wine.
What is the best wine to serve with my dinner? What is the best wine to serve with this dinner? I am making shrimp primavera pasta (ingredients: garlic, asparagus, lemon zest, Romano cheese and parsley) and a salad (ingredients: Bibb lettuce, sesame seeds, shallots, red wine vinegar, radishes and cucumber). A white wine, probably...but I've heard that it's difficult to match wine with dishes that include asparagus because of the taste. And I'm really not much of a wine connoisseur...please help!
Other than wine was there any alcohol consumed during the time of Christ? Was there Scotch and RuM and Vodka and perhaps beer and wine. How about substance abuse and drugs and trafficking.
How do you store wine after opening? I want to start drinking a glass of wine a day and my favorite wine is Pinot Noir. So, what is a good way to store it after it's opened? I know your not supposed to put red wine in the fridge and honestly cold pinot doesn't sound appealing. I figure if I drink a generous sized glass every day then it would take me three to four days to finish a bottle. Would the wine be bad by the fourth day?
Why do people treat wine as a marker of civilization, sophistication? It seems that wine is revered somehow and taken to be a mark of culture and sophistication when drank. Is it because of its history? Culture surrounding it? Surely not because of some intrinsic value; any two bits will buy you a bottle of Merlot these days. My wild theory is that wine can only be grown by those close to civilization, or those with enough riches and landspace to support what would be an only mildly valuable crop (grapes, natch) on its own. Hence, an aristocratic habit which is then admired by the bourgeoisie. Nowadays it seems that skill in identifying wines is a mark of sophistication, as well as being a wine grower. It seems to be relegated to an older and perhaps more "distinguished" demographic.
Does wine that comes with a CORK have to be a sparkling wine or can it be a "regular" wine as well? I am not a wine drinker due to allergies. Can you recommend any good dinner wines with a CORK in the bottle? My aunt is a wine drinker. I got her a really fancy cork remover (and some other things) for Christmas. I would like to supplement the present with a nice wine as well.
Should I keep bottled wine in a wine cooler or in a dry place to store it? I'm thinking about getting a wine rack for my basement or a wine cooler. However, is it bad to chill wine for long periods of time if you don't plan on opening it anytime soon? Or does it not matter either way?
How much wine will we need for a reception of about 200 people? Not everyone will be drinking wine, as there will be children attending. As well as other drinks at a tended bar. We are planning on using boxed wines, probally a red , and white. Which wines are most popular.
What is a good wine to buy someone for their 50th birthday? I'm not a very good when it comes to a nice tasting wine. I need suggestions as to what type of red wine to buy someone for their 50th birthday. She really enjoys a good tasting wine & I know nothing about purchasing it. I'm not looking to spend a lot of money, but don't want cheap wine either. Maybe $10-$30.00 if that's possible?
What's the best way to distribute a wine-accessory to the maximum number of wine shops? I have a product for post-sale purchase that wine stores love (I've presented it to several shops and they are consistently impressed). Surely there is a better way to distribute the product to stores than negotiating my way from one store to the next. What is the best way to have it distributed over the maximum area (the whole continent)? Can I negotiate a consignment deal with wine distributors? Thanks.

Can you recommend a red wine that is sweet and smooth, not bitter? I am interested in drinking some red wine, as I have heard that it is good for your health, and a good anti-ager. But I normally like white wines that are sweet, and smooth, not bitter. Are there any red ones that are similar? And are any good chilled, rather than at room temp? Thanks for your help!
Can I move top shelf wines that have been sitting at room temperature to a wine refrigerator? I have a number of quality wines that I have been keeping at a controlled room temperature for 6-10 years. I have just now purchased a wine refrigerator. Is there any problem with moving these older wines from the room temperature to the cooler climate (of course without any drastic temperature change)? Or would I be better off keeping them at the same room temperature if I plan on drinking them within 2 years?
What's the difference between cooking wine and drinking wine? I feel really stupid for asking this question, but I'm a new wine drinker. Does the bottle always specify when a wine is solely for cooking? Is the alcohol content different? Not planning on drinking cooking wine, obviously, I'm just curious.
Whats a really good wine I can get from the grocery store? I prefer a red or white wine... Mostly on the dry side and definately not a dessert wine. I like a really smooth taste as opposed to something too heavy or pungent. My wine vocabularly is not there so I hope someone can help me out. Im willing to spend up to $50 bucks but not more.
What is the best wine for a romantic evening? What is the best wine for a romantic evening with my Fiancee? I am no wine expert, but I believe she enjoys Ziphandel. I am planning on spending a nice, romantic evening with her once I return from Iraq. So after a great dinner and maybe a little time in the hot tub, I want to just sit in front of the fireplace, drink a little wine, and hopefully get busy.
How come wine I just bought is not mentioned on winery's web site? I just bought a 2004 Novelty Hill Merlot from Columbia Valley. ~harmonious blend of black cherry, raspberry, and mocha flavors comebined with undercurrent of inviting oak.~ I searched their web site wanting to learn more about it, but they only have different wines. Either Merlots from different years, or from a different grape valley. How come? Is my wine rare? How come the one I bought isn't on there?

What is a good wine for everyday drinking? I am looking for a good inexpensive everyday red wine. I am new to wine (but am really enjoying it). Im half french. half Italian, so I immediatly had a "taste" for a lot of the good stuff. The problem is that I am still a college student and dont have a ton of $. I know there are inexpensive red wines that get thrown into the premium wine tasting competitions and rank in the top 10 even though they were $10 bottles. I am looking for something like that. Any suggestions are appreciated.
Can I use red wine in a lemon wine sauce? I have frozen shrimp scampi, already with garlic sauce. Trying to make shrimp scampi pasta with a lemon wine sauce. Can I use red wine? That's the only kind I have. And also, should I add some worcestershire sauce and/or mustad to the sauce? I read it in some recipe but wasn't sure it works.
When do the effects of cheap wine start kicking in? I've never tried wine before, only beer, and my friends want me to go out tonight with them for my first. I want to know when the effects of cheap, red wine'll start kicking in for a first-timer like myself. Thanks in advance! I'm not asking about the hangover (although maybe I should be DX) but rather: when do I start getting tipsy? I don't plan on going out and getting drunk, although who knows.
How can I drink wine or beer without getting hives? I believe I have recently developed an allergy to wine and beer. Hives form after a glass. I don't drink very often, but do enjoy wine or beer occasionally and would like to still be able to have some. Is there something I can do to prevent the hives, itching, swelling that comes with it? I have been enjoying wine and beer for years, and only just recently started having this problem.
How long can unopened wine be stored at room temperature? I had some leftover table-red wine from a recent party (about a case and a half). It accidently got stored at room temperature for a week instead of in the basement. The bottles were screw tops and the wine was unopened. Some of the bottles had been previously chilled during the party. When I opened one of the bottles today the wine seemed slightly brown and tasted off. I didn't think it could have gone bad so quickly. Is this a storage issue or could the wine have already been bad? THANKS!!
What is a good but inexpensive white wine to pair with seafood pasta? I am making my husband a nice dinner tonight for his birthday. We have a new baby so we are on a budget. I would like to spend about $10 a bottle (give or take a few dollars). I don't know anything about wine, so if you could help me out with a good one to pair with a shrimp linguini, that would be great. Thanks!
What kind of wine goes well with chicken fettuccine alfredo? My husband and I are having alfredo pasta tonight and we need to know what kind of wine would go with it. We are on a budget until the end of the month so it can't be an expensive wine. Something that we could get from a grocery store or even the ABC package store (which is next to our grocery store). My husband prefers a red wine. What are your suggestions?

Any suggestions for a good wine or champagne? I just moved in with my boyfriend and I want to have a celebration dinner. He doesn't like to eat out, so I'm planning on ordering in from a cute little bistro down the street, and I'm looking for a good wine or champagne to go with it. We both like light, fruity wines. Something that goes down smooth, and isn't too dry. I prefer whites, but he likes both. Suggestions? As far as price goes, I'm looking for a mid-range wine or champagne, between $25-$50 dollars.
If a recipe calls for white or red wine, can I use regular wine that you drink to cook with? Or is cooking wine, a different wine than regular wine. If I need white wine to cook with, what is a good, inexpensive one?
How do you make scupernong wine or muskadine wine? I know you need a jar, sugar and time? This is a sweet wine my Mom used to make for Christmas time. We were allowed only so much, but no one ever wanted to go any where after a good meal and a little wine.

How do I get rid of wine mouth? Even if I have one glass of red wine, it stains my lips. I've tried exfoliants but they don't get it all off. When a person says a certain wine tastes good, what exactly do they mean? I drink wine on occasion but honestly, I can't seem to tell the difference. What makes a good wine good and what makes a bad wine bad? okay, so if the cheese and crackers are for removing the taste of the wine, then it wouldn't really be necessary when only drinking one type of wine? i know so little about wine that i figured it was just a snack people liked to eat with wine

Does anyone have experience running a wine-tasting fundraiser? Do wine shops sponsor these events, or the wine representatives (or are they called distributors)? If they sponsor, does that mean they will supply all the wine at no cost? We've never done this before so any help would be appreciated! EDIT - Since posting this question I have talked to wine merchants and found out that they will arrange for the distributors to come and provide the wine FREE, pour it, and supply some silent auction items! We've found a downtown hotel and they cover the insurance so they say we do not need to purchase any additional.
How do I learn to enjoy wine? I want to become a wine drinker but so far do not enjoy the taste of wine. Does anyone have any suggestions or comments on how to become a wine enthusiast?

What are some wine substitutes to use when cooking? I don't drink for religious purposes. But, I've noticed that a lot of the chefs on T.V., such as Emirel, use wine when cooking most of the time. I've heard that the wine supposedly steams out when cooking with it, but is there an alternative to using it? I would love to start making the recipes I see on T.V. the same way the chefs do.

sahabas taking wine? Ibn Hajar writes in his Fathu'l-Bari, v.X, p.30, that Abu Talha Zaid Bin Sahl arranged a wine party at his house and invited ten people. All of them drank wine and Abu Bakr recited some couplets commemorating some infidels who were killed in the battle of Badr ,the names of the guests also been mentioned (1) Abu Bakr Bin Abi Qahafa, (2) Umar Ibn Khattab, (3) Abu Ubaida Garra, (4) Ubai Bin Ka'b, (5) Sahl Bin Baiza, (6) Abu Ayyub Ansari, (7) Abu Talha (the host), (8) Abu Dajjana Samak Bin Kharsa, (9) Abu Bakr Bin Shaghuls, (10) Anas Bin Malik, who was 18 years old at that time and who served the wine. Baihaqi in his Sunan, v. VIII, p.29, has also narrated from Anas him self that he said that he was the youngest of them at that time and was serving the wine. (At this there was great commotion in the meeting.) You are too much agitated and you have made a profane oath! But you are not totally at fault. Your studies are limited. If you had read more widely, you would know that your own ulema have written all this. Now you should seek Allah's pardon. I am now constrained to explain facts according to the statements of your own ulema. Muhammad Bin Isma'il Bukhari in Sahih (commenting on Ayat-e-Khamr, "verse concerning wine", in the chapter Ma'ida of the Qur'an); Muslim Ibn Hajar in his Sahih (Kitab-e-Ashraba Bab-e-Tahrimu'l-Khamr); Imam Ahmad Bin Hanbal in his Musnad, v.XXX, p.181 and 227; Ibn Kathir in his Tafsir, v.XI, p.93; Jalalu'd-din Suyuti in his Durru'l-Mansur, v.II, p.321; Tabari in his Tafsir, v.VII, p.24; Ibn Hajar Asqalani in his Isaba, v.IV, p.22 and Fathu'l-Bari, v.X,p.30; Badru'd-din Hanafi in his Umdatu'l-Qari, V.X, p.84; Baihaqi in his Sunan, pp.286 and 290; and others have recorded these facts with detailed explanations. Perhaps these things took place before wine was made unlawful. What we gather from the commentary and history shows that even after the prohibitory verses some Muslims and companions continued taking forbidden wine. Muhammad Bin Jarir Tabari reports in Tafsir-e-Kabir, v.II, p.203, on the authority of Abil Qamus Zaid Bin Ali, who said that Allah had revealed three times the verses prohibiting the use of wine. In the first verse He says, "They ask you about intoxicants and games of chance. Say: In both of them there is a great sin and means of profit for men, and their sin is greater than their profit." (2:219) But the Muslims did not immediately give up wine. When two men, being intoxicated, offered their prayers and talked nonsense, another verse was revealed, saying: "O you who believe! do not go near prayer when you are intoxicated until you know (well) what you say." (4:43) Even after this, the drinking of wine continued, but people did not offer prayers while intoxicated. One day a man took wine (according to the report of Bazar, Ibn Hajar, and Ibn Mardawiyya the man was Abu Bakr) and composed an elegy for the pagans who were killed in the battle of Badr. When the Holy Prophet heard of this, he became angry. He went to the party and wanted to beat him. The man said, "I seek Allah's shelter from Allah's and His Prophet's wrath. Allah be my witness, I will not take wine again." Then the following verse was revealed: "O you who believe! intoxicants and games of chance and (sacrificing to) stones set up and (divination by) arrows are only an uncleanness, the Shaitan's work; shun it therefore that you may be successful." (5:90) Among the companions of the Holy Prophet there were good and bad men just as there are among other believers and Muslims. Those of them who tried to obey Allah and His Prophet reached an exalted rank. Those who followed their worldly aspirations were looked down upon by others. So those who fault the worldly companions do so with some reason. The wicked actions of some of the sahaba which are recorded in the authentic books of your own ulema are also condemnable according to the evidence of the Holy Qur'an. The Shias condemn them on that basis. If there is a logical reply to this argument, we are ready to accept it.

Black Box Wine--anyone tried it? I bought some boxed wine for a party. I've never tried it before, and was wondering if anyone here has. It's called Black Box, and I bought the Cabernet from Paso Robles, CA and Chardonnay from Monterey, CA. I tend to like wines from Sonoma, but I don't think this is going to be a big wine drinking crowd. Each box has 300 ml of wine (same as 4 bottles), and was on sale for $16.99. Since I already spent a bundle on hard liquor, I didn't want to be spending $10-$15 on just one bottle of wine. I know that box wines get a bad rap, but I've heard wine experts say that it actually keeps the wine better than glass bottles. Opinions on this wine if you've tried it... please, no cheap wine bashing...I already know it's cheap; that's why I bought it.
Wine advice? I'm a little picky about wines. Well, actually I'll be more honest & say that I really don't know much about them at all. I like the sweeter wines such as blackberry merlots & dessert wines, but I want to broaden my tastes. I'm currently on a medication (INH) that won't allow me to imbibe any alcohol, so I'm planning on having a nice bottle of wine to celebrate not having to choke down that horrid medication when I'm finally finished taking it in a few months. Any suggestions? I've got a bottle of wine at home that is a rose wine (Anime) that I picked up because it is a gorgeous pink color. I read reviews of other rose wines & found that rose wine isn't really popular. What type of wine do you think would taste good? I do like a wine with character & I also like a nice woodsy flavor in it. (In other words, I like to be able to taste something in the wine other than alcohol.) I'm also open to suggestions along similar themes of wine type drinks if you have any.
Wine in the Bible? In a previous question, numerous Christians noted that the 150 gallons of wine Jesus made at Cana was not fermented. Please address the following points below. 1. Every translations calls it wine, not juice. It the word meant grape juice, the translators would have used that word. None do. 2. People get drunk off wine in many places in the bible. The very first thing Noah does after leaving the ark is plant a vineyard, make wine, get drunk and pass out naked. (Genesis (:20-21). Lot gets so drunk on wine that both his daughters end up raping him over the course of two nights. (Lot 19:30-36) There are many references to drunk people in the bible from wine (not grape juice). So what is you case that the 150 gallons of wine Jesus made for this party was non-alcoholic, besides the fact it makes you uncomfortable? Mim: Yes, the did have a different word. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alcohol_in_the_bible
Wine suggestions for a wedding? Hello, I'm not a wine drinker, more of a mixed drink/cocktail kinda gal. Only wine I ever really had was a red one and a white zinfandel. LOL - anyway, I'm attempting to narrow down fine wines for a high end wedding with a $400,000 - $500,000 type of budget etc. I want to sample the wines first. I need a wine that can be put on every table - 2 servings per guest. There's 278 guests and tables of 10 so I need to be able to order the wine in "bulk" or however you say it. Can anyone make suggestions - I looked in groom to be's wine fridge and found a bottle of 2002 Bordeaux and a few others, so I know he likes those....here's a sample of some of the POSSIBLE foods on the menu: soup or salad and dinner rolls grilled filet mignon, loaded baked potatos and creamed spinach penne w/ vodka sauce and chicken salmon filet w/ wild rice and mixed baby greens Vegan - Eggplant Parmesan w/ spaghetti noddles I'll pick best answer...TY. ** that's not per bottle, sorry, you can only type so much in here. LOL. that's wedding budget total. I'm looking for wines I can put on the tables, I want to sample them and narrow some choices down. TY. It IS possible to plan your own wedding or someone else's. I'm doing research for myself. justme - I'm a meat eater. I was looking for vegetarian main dishes, I will recheck that if it's not acceptable for the menu. TY.

Wine pretentiousness and their snobs? How come people are always telling me , "No, you shouldn't chill that wine and you should only drink that wine with this food, etc." ? I happen to like all wines at room temperature. What's it to them? Who are they to tell me at what temperature I should drink my wine and what food I should drink red and white wine with. If I want my wine as hot a hot chocolate, it's no one's place to say anything about it. It's no wonder I'm not a people person. Lisa H, I heard that 2BuckChuck is what you serve when you want your guests to start leaving ;) LOL! :)

Wine Questions? I have a 3 Qs about wine.. 1) If you buy a bottle of cheap wine (say $15), store/age it, and take it out again (unopened) in about 10-20 years, would there be a really great difference between this wine and an expensive wine ($200) kept in the same way? Or would the costly one still remain tastier? 2) Also, what's the best Wine you've ever tasted? Was it very expensive or just priced moderately? (your answer is probably going to be expensive, but just wondering) 3) Where can you find the best deal in wine? Either at your local wine store, or at one known nation-wide (like wine being sold at Walmart of something.. I don't even know if Walmart even sells wine). Thank you in advance! My dad's wondering.. I hate the taste of wine haha. Way too bitter (I'm 13).
Why a Bottle of Wine is Better than a Man (Part 1 of 2)? This is part 1 of 2 read the next one also! This was what inspired part 2! o It takes at least three bottles to give you a headache o You get a headache afterwards - Not before o You can have more than one a night without feeling guilty o You can have one whilst eating o A bottle of wine waits for you while you get ready o A wine improves when chilled o A wine matures with age o A wine get more attractive as it gets older o You don't have to boost it's ego o When you finish a bottle of wine, you can have another straight away o Good wines aren't always completing o You can sample many wines, but always go back to your favorite o The cork isn't easy to get out, but it's always worth it in the end o If corked, you can send it back and get another o Wine doesn't run out of cotton shirts o Wine doesn't run out of clean underwear o Wine never falls asleep in front of the TV o You can always spit wine out if you don't like it o The fruitier the wine the better o Fruity full bodied wine don't mean over-sexed with a paunch o A bottle of wine keeps it's hand to itself o A wine doesn't mind if you don't drink it all the first time you try o Wine gets better if allowed to breathe All these may or may not be true depending on who, what, where and why. But don't expect the bottle to hold your door open, stick up for you and I know about corks but can a cork lick your vagina? http://www.total-knowledge.com/~willyblues/ From; WILLYS JOKES 4/24/06 WHY A BOTTLE OF WINE IS BETTER THAN A MAN

Wine with plastic/metal cork!? I used to 'stay clear' of wines with eather plastic 'cork' or screw 'cork' because I was told it was very bad wine... but there were a program on TV not long ago, that said that some really good wine yards (new world wines) have started to use them, and that it has nothing to do with qualty. They said that even with the plastic cork, the wine could breath... Is this true?
Connoisseur in wine? Wine Cellar or Wine refrigerator! I need a good advice.? My husband wants to set up a Wine Cellar in the basement; the humidity is between 60 & 75. How much humidity is good? Or is better just to buy the wine refrigerator? But it will take more electricity. I also want to know what kind of wines you suggest for to have. I like red and white wine. I will like to have a good variety of wine for just sit back and relax, dinner time, desserts. Etc. I don’t care about the price range; we want a very selective variety of wines. And for those people that doesn’t enjoy wine like we do, what kind of wine can I get for those occasions? Please I need suggestions. Drinking wine with a sulfite allergy? OK I would like to drink wine every now and then. In fact I would like to actually TRY wine to see if I even like it. My problem is I have a severe sulfite allergy, and since sulfites are in almost every kind of wine, I never get to drink any. Does anybody know if there are any common brands of wine that do not contain sulfites? I'd really hate to have to special order wine off the internet.
Kosher wine? Hello, I am going to buy some bottles of Kosher wine for my wedding - I have three Jewish guests coming. The question is - can I store it like normal wine, I would normally just pop it in a cupboard or in my wine rack! But as it is Kosher, does it have to be stored a certain way. I know it's wine like any other but I'm talking about possibly comprimising it's, umm, kosherness - can it be in a cupboard with non-kosher wine etc!! Help! Michelle -- thank you - thats exactly what I needed to know. Promirdius - I ain't a fella David - Please take your racist and offensive rants somewhere else.
The wine list? Wal-Mart announced that they will soon be offering customers a new discount item: Wal-Mart's own brand of wine. The world's largest retail chain is teaming up with E&J Gallo Winery of California, to produce the spirits at an affordable price, in the $2-5 range. Wine connoisseurs may not be inclined to throw a bottle of Wal-Mart brand into their shopping carts, but "there is a market for cheap wine", said Kathy Micken, professor of marketing. She continued, "But the right name is important." Customer surveys were conducted to determine the most attractive name for the Wal-Mart brand. The top surveyed names in popularity are: 10. Chateau Traileur Parc 9. White Trashfindel 8.Big Red Gulp 7. World Championship Riesling 6. NASCARbernet 5. Chef Boyardeaux 4. Peanut Noir 3. I Can't Believe It's Not Vinegar! 2. Grape Expectations And the number 1 name for Wal-Mart Wine... 1. Nasti Spumante According to Micken, "The beauty of Wal-Mart wine is that it can be served with either white meat (Possum) or red meat (Squirrel).
making wine from cherry juice? I recently discovered that I really like tart cherry juice. That got me thinking that I might also like a wine made from cherry juice. I like dry wines, I don't like sweet wines. I wanted to make a wine from this store bought tart cherry juice but all the recipes I found online were designed to be made from cherries. Seems I could avoid a lot of steps if I can use the tart cherry juice. I'm not looking for some jailhouse hooch I want to make a decent wine. Any suggestions.
Drinking wine on a low carb diet. - low carb dieters only please? I read a report that wine has less carbs then is reported and will work on a low carb diet. I am doing Atkins and I used the ketostix to determine if drinking wine has any affect on ketosis. To my delighted surprise, I remain in ketosis even when I drink wine. I lost 10 pounds quickly but I have stalled. I don't know if it is the wine or if it is because I have begun strength training. Do any low carbers drink wine and still lose weight?
I am a wine guy. I drink fine, middlin and schwag wine. I try every wine I see.? I just drank a little more than my share of Columbia Crest Cab. I'd rate that between schwag and middlin. After a BM the bowl was the same color as if I drank the whole Kool Aid guy. Do mid-grade wines contain dyes. I know cheap ass wines do, haven't had any Boones farm in 20 years but I had 2 glasses of this CC and thought I'd had an ass blowout. Believe me, I drink wine, lots of wine when the mood strikes. You drink 4-8 glasses of Paul Hobbs (Cab) and the next day your uh-hem doesn't look like you passed out in a San Francisco bath house. Any thoughts from the wine folks?
Making wine? 1. How do wine makers prevent air from entering the container of fermenting wine? 2. Why do some wine-makers remove the natural yeasts from the grapes and then add other yeasts to turn the grape juice into wine? 3. Why would it be dangerous to make wine in a sealed glass bottle? Can anyone help me with these three questions please? I need it for my homework. Thanks.
In November 2006, the Vino Wine Company placed the following advertisement in the Sunday Clarion and the Sunda In November 2006, the Vino Wine Company placed the following advertisement in the Sunday Clarion and the Sunda In November 2006, the Vino Wine Company placed the following advertisement in the Sunday Clarion and the Sunday Post newspapers: 'Special Offer - 6 'Vino' wine glasses - absolutely free - simply buy three bottles from our Matador Rose range of wines, send the corks, together with proof of purchase, to the address below and we will send you six 'Vino' wines glasses absolutely free. Offer closes 31 December 2006.' Peter saw the advertisement in the Sunday Clarion and, although he usually drinks a cheaper brand of wine, decided to purchase three bottles of Matador Rose in order to send for the glasses. On 1 December he purchased the three bottles, but decided to keep them to drink at Christmas. By 15 December, Vino Wine Company had been inundated with replies to the advertisement and decided to withdraw the offer. They placed the following advertisement in the Sunday Post newspaper: 'Due to greater than anticipated demand, Vino Wine Company regret they must withdraw their offer of free 'Vino' wine glasses with immediate effect.' Peter did not see the second advertisement. On 29 December he had only drunk two of the three bottles and so decided to drink the third bottle by himself. The following day he was suffering from a hangover and so did not post the corks and receipt until 31 December. Due to a backlog of mail, the letter did not reach the wine company until 2 January 2007. Jane is a regular drinker of Matador Wine. On 20 December, while waiting in the doctor's surgery, she was glancing at an old copy of the Sunday Post newspaper when she saw the offer of free 'Vino' wine glasses. When she returned home she collected the corks from the three bottles she had drunk the previous week, found the receipts for the bottles in her purse and posted them to the Vino Wine Company on 21 December. The Company received the letter the following day. Advise Peter and Jane, neither of whom has received their 'Vino' wine glasses.
wine bar in palo alto/ san mateo (cali) area...? I have heard about a wine tasting bat in the palo alto / san mateo, CA area. At this place they give you a pre-paid "wine card". The card is a credit and you can go around the bar and use this wine car as a debit to taste the wines you wish. Has anyone else heard of this place. I would love to get a group together to go... HELP!
Best white wine for cooking? I know absolutely nothing about wine, and would only be using the wine for occasional cooking purposes. Mainly poultry. I've heard people say to stay away from cooking wine. I don't want to spend more than $15 a bottle. How long does wine last anyway? Thanks for the help. Sincerely Wine Dummy. I have never tasted white wine, so I wouldn't know what to get.
Question about cooking with wine....how come when some peeople cook..there is fire? i have a question about cooking with wine....how come when I see people cook on tv with wine..sometimes it causes flare ups but other times it doesnt? How do you know if a flare up would occur or not? that's why i'm afraid of cooking with wine. Is there only one type of wine that would cause flare ups? What is the difference between cooking with white wine or red wine? Would one cause fire? and what is DRY wine? some people cook with that and there are no flare ups!

Wine is a social drink is it not? I think wine is a social drink, it isn't the same as vodka etc, i think that drinks like vodka , shots and things are binge drinkers drinks, you drink them to get 'steaming' , I am 18 and since i was 10 i have been drinking wine with my dinner, its really normal in my house hold as my family and part french. When i am out it pains me to sit back and watch my mates get 'sloshed' on vodka and shots and anything else that they know ill get them drunk as skunks. wouldn't you all agree that wine seems to be a more socially acceptable drink? and if so, what is your favorite ? and who reckons that drinking wine from the age of 10 is un-acceptable? (im always intrigued to hear peoples views)
Can I use white wine instead of red wine in cooking? I don't like red wine in cooking or drinking for that matter, but like white wine, can I use it in place of red wine with good results? I know beef bourginon is traditionally red wine and although I like the idea of it (slow cooked meat, wine, mushrooms) I've tried it with red wine and really did not like it couldn't even stand the smell and wondered if I'd get an acceptable result using white? Wow! Thanks everyone, I think I will definately give it a go. Although I'm an exerienced cook I daren't try this until I'd asked you guys. I've avoided all dishes with red wine for years. Don't normally do anything unless Delia says it's ok. Jean-Jaques - Merci - your secret is safe with me! :)

Homemade Red Wine? Every year my Dad and I harvested the grapes from my best friends house and made wine. He died 3 years ago. I don't know why I've been hanging on to this last batch, but I need to let it go before it goes bad. I'm really not a fan of red wine, but the couple bottles I've opened still seem fine. I have about 20 bottles left and would like to give them away. I'm afraid it will be embarrassing to give away bad wine. Also, I don't want to give it away with a disclaimer like "well, this wine has been hanging around my house for 3 years...so sorry if it is bad." It sounds like I'm trying to unload some old junk of mine and that's not the way it is at all. I don't have the palate for red wine, but everyone who tried it said it's great. I remember my Dad saying that it was very sweet and should be consumed fresh and not aged. I really have no idea how long he thought it was OK to keep around. Any ideas for how long it'll last and what to say when I give it?
Water or Wine? For those who wish to have A glass of wine.. and those who don't...this is something to think about. As Ben Franklin said: In wine there is wisdom, in beer there is freedom, in water there is bacteria. In a number of carefully controlled trials, scientists have demonstrated that if we drink 1 liter of water each day, at the end of the year we would have absorbed more than 1 kilo of Escherichia coli, (E.coli) - bacteria found in faeces. In other words, we would be consuming 1 kilo of poop. However, we do NOT run that risk when drinking wine & beer (or tequila, rum, whiskey or other liquor) because alcohol has to go through a purification process of boiling, filtering and/or fermenting. Remember: Water = Poop, Wine = Health Therefore, it's better to drink wine and talk stupid, than to drink water and be full of sh*t There is no need to thank me for this valuable information: I'm doing it as a public service. What is your choice? HELLOOOOOOOO To those who are taking this so seriously...it is a bit of tongue in cheek. the facts are true, but my God i know you can't live off the stuff!!!!.....some people really need to get a life!! Bubblie......i sure will girl. Couldnt drink the water as i'm full of sh*t anyway Gosh why are some people on here soo serious. Robert D.......yes.....but this was meant to cheer everyone up....y'know....sense of humour thingy!!!? S28.............AT LAST.....someone who is taking this with a pinch of salt!!!!!..congratulations on recognising something funny FICK MICK.....how dare you call me daft !!!! Barry White.....thank you. another one who can see the funny side of this. This country needs an injection of humour FICK DICK....ahhh you delete your first answer and then come back with another.....and it took you four hours to think of that.....i think you been on the water!!!!
What constitutes a GREAT wine?? I know taste is subjective, but why would one bottle cost thousands and others a few dollars? Obviously the process and equipment used and the end balance of the wine are important factors. What should I look for when evaluating a wine? How should I properly drink the wine to get the full flavor? I know there are different types of wines because of the different grapes used, but what is characteristic of different types of wines (i.e., Chardonnay-supposed to be light and fruity? Oily? Sauvignon Blanc-dry, etc.). What are wine points? How is the wine judged by the professionals who assign the points? Where are the best wine grapes grown? What is the "champagne" of white and red wines (the best-a wine using the best quality grape, in an age-old secret tradition, and is aged for 50 years, etc. or whichever qualities truly make a wine great). What is your favorite Red and White wine?? Help!?! Thank you for your time and thoughts! Thank you so much for the thought you put into your answers thus far...now, another question! What should I look for when I swirl the wine in the glass? Should it be a slow run back down to the bottom of the glass, or should it sink quickly? Thanks, again!
Vodka Double WIne - Real or Not? Another question on this site asked the same question and the resolved answer was "no" - yet I found the following from http://www.russianlife.net/vodka/zabylin.cfm Russian vodka was made from rye, wheat and barley. Vodka was generally referred to as wine and divided into types: normal vodka was called simple wine, the best of this type being called vino dobroye (good wine); still higher was vino boyarskoye (boyar's wine); finally, higher still was vino dvoynoe (double wine), which was extremely strong. Aside from these vodkas, there were vodkas made from sweet syrups, mainly for women. The head of the household infused vodka with various spices and fragrant grasses, also infusing it with cinnamon, St. John's Wort, bodyag , amber or saltpetre, as well as different fruits and rinds. Russians drank vodka not only with meals, but all day long. So is this real or not?
Wich kindof wine is considered sexy? I´ve heard of sexy wines in movies and books, but not quite sure what it means. At first, I asumed that any wine that turn you on is a sexy wine,, then came to think soft and fruit-tasted was, or thatthat dry and elgants preumme to be sexy wine. What that means for someone who knows about wine?
pregnant and wine? so i'm wanting to make tuscan style pork roast for supper-- its real yummy and simple to make. here's the hitch-- i'm 26 1/2 weeks pregnant and the recipe calls for wine to cook the roast in. i know i'm not to drink (duh), but can i cook with the wine. i use some of the wine to cook the roast in and then baste it in the wine throughout cooking. is it ok to cook with wine or other alcohol (i like to grill things with beer)?
Wine pairings? Question - I'm trying to pair a not-so-dry white wine with a grilled chicken a breast and a not-do-dry red wine with roast beef...any suggestions? I'm not a wine expert...I do enjoy Riesling, and wondering if that would be acceptable with chicken, or would it be too sweet? This is for my wedding reception, and I'd like to just serve one kind of red, one kind of white, and one dessert wine (a white or blush wine preferrably) for the entire reception. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. And I don't have a lot of money to spend on the wine, so some nice inexpensive wine would work best. Thanks for your help. I'm in Minnesota - living in the Twin Cities area - wedding is in northern MN.
Which is a good wine for people who don't like wine? I want to be a wine connoisseur. I'm interested in having wine with special meals. But every wine I have tried hasn't tasted good to me. I did like Martin & Rossi Tosti Asti. But I didn't like Japanese Plum Wine, YellowTail, or Lambrusco. I like wine coolers :) I know that's not real wine, but that's the only alcoholic beverage that I do like because it's sweet. Do you have any suggestions of what wine I might like? Or if I should join a wine tasting club to try for myself? If so, please tell me how a wine tasting is operated. All I know is that you taste wine and then spit it out. Is there talking amongst guest, note taking for future reference, etc? Thanks!
Which wine to order while eating out? My basic knowledge of wine choice is that "Red wine goes with red meat and white wine with white meat". How do I order wine more effectively? Does wine selection depends on food? like wine for steak is different from wine for Italian food, or is it varies with meat? Shrimp has different wine that beef? please enlighten me
In November 2006, the Vino Wine Company placed the following advertisement in the Sunday Clarion and the Sunda In November 2006, the Vino Wine Company placed the following advertisement in the Sunday Clarion and the Sunday Post newspapers: 'Special Offer - 6 'Vino' wine glasses - absolutely free - simply buy three bottles from our Matador Rose range of wines, send the corks, together with proof of purchase, to the address below and we will send you six 'Vino' wines glasses absolutely free.
Does White Wine Vinegar have white wine in it? Not a stupid question!? I wanted to buy Paul Newman's Caesar Salad Dressing. It said it had white wine vinegar in it. I asked a few people and they said that meant white wine was fermented/distilled/whatever to make this vinegar. I asked Newmansown and they said it doesn't. I don't drink alcohol. So I only want it if it hasn't go alcohol in. It's the best one on the market and I know you're thinking get a life it's only dressing but it will make a big difference to my cooking. So does red wine vinegar have red wine (alcohol) in it? White wine vinegar have white wine in it? I looked on their website and the ingredients say only 'distilled vinegar' and I bought one from Morrisons and that said White Wine Vinegar for the Caesar Dressing and Red Wine for the Italian. So all vinegar has wine in it? I shouldn't drink alcohol so have I been drinking it all this time? I asked alot of people and they said Vinegar doesn't have any alcohol in it because a) it should say contains alcohol and b) it always says in brackets how much it has in it. What if I use the Newmansown Caesar dressing straight without cooking it? Will I be consuming any alcohol. I know I will so better not.How come on the website it doesn't say white wine but the actual product says white wine? I am a Muslim so I don't want to risk anything because I want to try my favourite actor's food!
Wine bar tipping question..? I was recently in a particularly uppity wine bar and ordered a $60 half-bottle of French wine. The bartender/ wine master uncorked the bottle and very professionaly poured it into two glasses for my friend and myself sitting in front of him at the bar. After drinking our 1.25 glasses of wine, I paid with a credit card the $60, plus a $5 tip. Wine master's response was a look that was anywhere from ambiguous to undersatisfied. I generally tip bartenders $1 per drink, and usually it's a bottle of beer. Waiters get 15-20%, depending. Should a wine bar bartender get a similar percentage of a grossly marked-up bottle for doing a 30-second routine that is pretty much the same no matter what bottle he's (she's) pouring? Bonus question: What is the correct title of a bartender in a wine bar?
I have a few wine questions. Please help me, I'm a newbie.? I’m a newbie to the wine world. I’ve always loved to drink it but just now getting into learning more about it. I have a few questions. I have begun to accumulate a few bottles, thus far relying on the recommendations of friends and people who work at the liquor store. If I want to “age” my wine (I drink almost exclusively red wine) how do I know how long to keep it and when to drink it? For example, do cabernets, merlots, syrahs, etc., all age at the same rate or may one reach its premium in three years and the other ten? Further, does this extend to cheap versus expensive wine? In other words, in order to get any “benefit” from aging one’s wine does it already have to be of a fairly high quality or will cheaper wine taste better if you let it age for a year or two after purchasing as well?
Wine and cheese lovers.? I would like to put together a wine basket for my brother for x-mas who loves all kinds of wine a good cheeses.I live in a small town in Ohio so no access to imported stores, and I like to make it personal by not ordering a ready to go gift basket. So what good(not brake the bank) wines should I put in it,I know he loves Cabernet Sauvignon, and port, but I have no idea when it comes to names and don't want to ask not to apoil the suprise. And what else besides the wine,I mean a mini wine rack or a single wine holder or a decanter?Cheese and cracker,or cheese and a nice cheese cutter set? What would make a perfect wine lover's basket after all. Thanks in advance.
What are the different types of red and white wine that I can use for each of these different courses? I have a wine project to do and I don't really know much about wine or drink them: I have to do five courses: appetizer, soup, salad, entree` and dessert. For the entree` dish, i need to pair it with a red and white wine to go with Braised short ribs, I need to know what specific wine red and white that is good with it. I need to know the type of wine it is not just by saying red wine is good for this dish. I need to have 1-2 sentence saying why iam using that type of wine. For the other courses, i just need either one red or wine. For my appetizer,it is going to be smoked salmon on toasted points with cucumber, cilantro and chive cream but i dont know what wine would go with this one and why. For the soup dish, gumbo with shrimp, what wine would go with this one and why. For the salad dish,Shaved fennel salad served with dill and grape tomaotes and a whole grain Dijon mustard dressing, what wine would be best for this dish and why. I need help in this assignment, can someone help me?
Selling wine.? I am looking to sell a fantastic selection of wines. Does anyone know of a site or a place that pays for nice wines. Our wine fridge is falling apart so we have to try to sell some of the wines. If anyone has any info please let me know.

Can someone recommend a white wine that doesn't give me heart burn? I really like wine but I have problems with it. I don't know why but red wine dyes my teeth for DAYS. Okay, maybe I'm exaggerating but one glass will of red wine would definitely stain my teeth for a few hours, so I try to avoid it when out in public. White wine, however, can give me really bad heartburn to the point where my entire night is ruined. This is also after one glass. I was wondering if anyone had any reccomendations for white wine that is not very acidic and would not give me heartburn or any tips in general about this (I already keep a pack of antacids with me in case I end up somewhere with wine being served).
Do you have your very own wine cellar? how many wines do you have? do you drink wine everyday? if so, then I wouldn't spike the wine, I would want to talk about all of the types in your wine collection. It's really interesting to know if you have french wine, italian wine, spanish wine...I like the combinations...I hope you do too I don't drink any alcohol, just curious and would like to taste a light wine someday..like a pink one for the summer. a nice chap..english guy once told me about this one...I miss him..so I will drink in honor of him...here's for you...adam...hic..love you
Wedding Toasts - Wine instead of Champagne? My fiance and I are both from towns with popular vineyards and wanted to incorporate the two different labels of wine into our wedding. We were going to put one bottle of wine from either winery on each table, but figured that might be a little pricey (and kinda messes up my centerpiece idea..lol). We were thinking instead to use the different wines (we'd have a white and a red) for the toasts instead of champagne. We'd have the glasses handed out just as we would with the champagne, except with wine in them. It is an added bonus because neither of us really like champagne. Is doing this ok?
wine appreciation? First i would like to say that...i am kinda new to wine/liquor/etc. I was curious about wines, how some people can describe it in such weird manners(cripsy?) So i bought a bottle of cheap wine, its white, sauvignon blanc mix. But when i drink it, its like, bland, then the bitterness hits the tastebuds. What am i missing exactly?
Wine tasting...how do you know what's good or what's not? I honestly don't have a damn clue. Because of the alcohol, all wines have tasted terrible to me for a long time. I have begun to tolerate the alcohol now, but now I can't really tell what really tastes "good" and what doesn't. Should there be something I am looking for? If I look too hard, will I just be forcing myself to like a wine that everyone likes? What if I end up liking a wine that's just plain corked and digusting? I have tasted many wines, and I really don't get how people get the pleasure out of tasting wine. I can see how people are fascinated by the contrasts of tastes but I don't see how it can bring pleasure in "tasting good" in the conventional sort of way. Am I missing something or is Wine tasting just one big snobby phony self-fulfilled illusion?
Fun Poisoned Wine Puzzle #2? All right, it's time for another puzzle. The host of a grand party has 1000 identical wine bottles (with wine) in his cellar. 8 days before his party, his evil ex-wife sneaks into his cellar and randomly poisons one of the wine bottles. The host knows this, and wants to find out which bottle is poisoned so that he can use the rest at the party. He decides to order lemmings to taste test his wine. Once a lemming tastes the poison, it will show no signs of the poisoning until 6 to 7 days after drinking, upon which it will prompty fall over and die. Unfortunately, the lemmings are very expensive. What is the least number of lemmings he needs to order to ensure that he can find the poisoned bottle of wine. PLEASE EXPLAIN. (For connoisseurs who might complain that testing the wine contaminates it: Assume that the lemmings only need to take a tiny tiny sip to test the wine, and that afterwards, the wine is not contamined and can still be used for the party.) 999 lemmings? The host isn't that rich. I don't think he can even afford 100. why does snizzleborfin always mention "24" hours? it takes 6-7 days for the symptoms to show. Amy F almost has the answer. The only problem is that we have only 8 days to figure out which bottle is poisoned. Try to figure out a way to get all ten lemmings to drink them together. Amy F got the answer. Here's another way to think of it that I thought up: Basically, label the bottles 1-1000 in binary form so that the first bottle is 0000000001 and the last bottle is 1111101000. (10 digits can actually encode 1024 bottles). Let each digit of the number represent a specific lemming. So the 1st digit represents the 1st lemming, the 2nd represents the 2nd lemming, the 3rd represents the 3rd lemming, and so on. For each bottle, each lemming should sip that bottle if his digit is a 1 and ignore the bottle otherwise. After 7 days, there should be a unique combination of lemmings who die. If each dead lemming represents a 1 and each living lemming represents a 0, the 10 digit combination of the lemmings should give you the bottle # in binary. The binary setup above is the same as this setup. Giving: The 1st lemming every 2nd bottle The 2nd lemming every 4th bottle The 3rd lemming every 8th bottle The nth lemming every (2^n)th bottle ... ... up to the 10th lemming.
Why do "inorganic" wines contain 10 times more "sulfites" than organic wine? I am trying to understand this. "Alcohol " is a naturally produced chemical from fermentation? Is this correct? And some "Sulfites" , which I am guessing are also produced along with this process of making wine or any form of alcohol? are all naturally produced. Why do they need to add more "sulfites" to inorganic wines? what is the reason really? why do "organic" wines not need this as well? are these added "sulfites" more artificial than the ones which are naturally produced from fermentation or not? and does it cause it to taste differently or have different effects on your state of mind the following morning these added artificial? chemicals? Do less expensive wines contain more of them or not? why so? Thanks for your answers!
Wine fridges vs. mini fridges? Are there any vital differences between mini fridges and wine fridges? I have a mini fridge that I'm not using, and I'm interested in using it to store some wine. If I turn the temperature down will that work, or do I need to fork out the big bucks for a wine fridge?
Wine drinkers.......Does it bother you when? you go shopping for wine and there are all of these ratings posted in front of bottles from the wine spectator and the wine advocate and Robert Parker and they give the wine a good rating (like a 90). Then you look at the rating label and they are rating (for example) a 2003 wine and then you look at the wine being sold and it's a 2006. I'm being anal about this because I just came home from shopping and this one liquor store had about a dozen of these mis-rating labels posted around the store. Blatant false advertising.
Wine Question? What is the difference in dinner wine and just drinking wine? How do I know the difference. Obviously I know nothing about wine, but I am curious. I know I like white wine better than red, but I would like a sweet wine I can just drink whenever, rather than wine that goes better with food. Thanks for all your help.

Water into wine - Jesus the bartender.? Jesus was a very clever man - and spent much of his life learning. I also believe he followed his quest for knowledge to india, Tibet, and China, before returning. He was also very resourceful and quick witted. I am not disproving miracles, but supplying a possible route to their existence - He may well have received devine help to achieve this. What is wine - water, colour, taste, alcohol. To produce a wine substitute at short notice, Mary asked him to "do something" - and instructed the servants to "do whatever he wants" Principle dye of the area - Madder root-Red. This powder will turn any liquid red. Alcohol - Produced in Egyptian times for perfume and medical reasons - 8% will equal wine strength. Flavour - Pepper and spices will produce tannins and bite. The addition of these items - by "passing a hand over" will produce an acceptable smooth wine. Is this possible? It is interesting to read an Egyptian papyrus stating that "dyers smelled fishy and had sore hands and eyes" And that Moses also turned the water to an "undrinkable blood" - where fish died. I'm pretty sure he travelled with traders along the spice routes to get to other areas. This would not be expencive if he was working for them. I'm sure they would bring interesting stories of wise people from other lands. - Unless you can prove that he stayed at home between 11 and 30.
Walmart Wine????? Some Wal-Mart customers soon will be able to sample a new discount item -- Walmart's own brand of wine. The world's largest retail chain is teaming up with E&J Gallo Winery of Modesto, Calif., to produce the spirits at an affordable price, in the $2-5 range. While wine connoisseurs may not be inclined to throw a bottle of Walmart brand wine into their shopping carts, there is a market for cheap wine, said Kathy Micken, professor of marketing at Roger Williams University in Bristol, R.I. She said: "The right name is important." So, here we go: The top 12 suggested names for Walmart Wine: 12. Chateau Traileur Parc 11. White Trashfindel 10. Big Red Gulp 9. Grape Expectations 8. Domaine Walmart "Merde du Pays" 7. NASCARbernet 6. Chef Boyardeaux 5. Peanut Noir 4. Chateau des Moines 3. I Can't Believe It's Not Vinegar! 2. Wine at the Reception? I believe I am going to pick 1 white wine and 1 red wine for my wedding reception on Saturday. Does anyone have any suggestions on what type of wines to get? I mean if you were to pick one kind of white wine and one kind of red wine, what would satisfy the most people? Chardonnay and Merlot, Pinot Grigio and a Cabernet, etc.... Thanks!

Does the Wine Cellar in Which a Wine Ages Affect the Flavor of the Wine? It may just be my imagination, yet when I taste certain wines, especially from Italy and France, they have a certain taste/aroma to them which is similar to the smell of very old castles, wine cellars and structures in those countries. I certainly can flavor the oak barrels the wine was aged in, however, can the surrounding atmosphere also affect the flavor of the wine? With some wines this sensation is very strong to me, and I am reminded of the castles and medieval structures I have visited. It is much like how I associate a perfume with a certain person, when I smell it independently of that person, I am reminded of him/her.
Can I ship wine from Mexico to the US I am an Internet wine retailer? I wonder how it works, if anyone knows how I can ship wine from a winery into Mexico without braking the law... Is it easier to buy wine already imported to the US, then buy and dropship? Does anyone know about any mexican wine importers in the US? Thanks!
Wine advice what is a really great tasting wine without a strong taste but more fruit based? Hello , I'm looking for a really good wine,Taste is really an issue for me I don't like alcohol because of the strong taste even lighter stuff such as strawberry based margaritas has to be very dull with more fruit and less alcohol because I just hate the taste .I enjoy fruit so a wine that is maybe fruit based will appeal to me. I don't mind if it's sweet. When in comes to wine I'm just at a lost because this is completely foreign territory and I'm not really sure what to try .I don't have a preference in red or white although on TV I have heard people say red can taste very strong like vinegar lol which isn't good .my main factor is just taste . Your help would really help me out I'm having a dinner and I'd like to introduce wine . thanks a bunch destiny
Are the Islamic wine rivers in heaven alcoholic? Quran 47:15 “(Here is paradise) which the righteous are promised: in it are rivers of water incorruptible… RIVERS OF WINE, a JOY to those who drink; and rivers of honey pure and clear.” http://www.usc.edu/dept/MSA/quran/047.qmt.html#047.015 Stupid question right? I mean, if it says wine, it means wine unless otherwise noted...thats the common understanding...but nooooo. You see, Muslims recognize this is a contradiction because wine is supposed to be from Satan...so what do Muslims say? "Its non-alcholic wine!". What basis do we have to ASSUME its no alcholic when it the Quran never says that...in fact it says the opposite of non-alcholoic...it says WINE! Anyway, why not accept Allah's wine rivers and get stoned....drink drink drink....no worries about the liver right? Drink your wine and do your disposable virgins. “(Regarding Heaven) Then we have made them VIRGINS,” http://www.usc.edu/dept/MSA/quran/056.qmt.html#056.036
Red Wine Experts? I would like to give my brother and his wife some wine for a Christmas gift. They really enjoy red wine. I'm not very knowledgable about good wine. Could someone recommend something really good, perhaps a little unusual. I would like to give them 2 bottles, maybe one on the lighter side, and one a little more robust and bold. My budget would be about $20-25 dollars a bottle. I've already bought them a nice set of the new stemless wine glasses so now I just need some good wine to go with them. I live in Vancouver so there shouldn't be a problem finding anything suggested. Lots of liquor stores and specialty wine shops in my area * about $20-25 canadian so probably around $20 or less US. I'm not sure about exchange rate for other countries, but it doesn't matter, I'm open to any suggestions.
Wedding Speech - Wine as the Metaphor? I'm working on a wedding speech for a friend. Both my friend and future bride are wine obsessed. The love wine, drink wine, talk wine.... I want to write a speech using wine as the metaphor. My friends are not wine snobs, they are the first to admit... If a $6 bottle of wine is good for you, thats all the matters. Does anyone have any ideas or cool suggestions for metaphors to be used.....or how I could incorporate this idea into my speech. Thank

Wine Cork Placecard Holders? I'm NOT having a wine themed wedding. But, I do love wine cork placecard holders. One, they are a bit more creative then something bought a store. Two, they are cheap. I would get corks from myself (i love wine-usually go throug 2 bottles a month), my friends (all wine lovers). I would DIY placecards...save $$ that way. What do people think? Like I said, I'm not having a wine themed wedding. I want to have an October wedding and I plan on using their black/champagne or brown/champagne as my wedding colors. Do you think these type of placecards are tacky?
good wine with chocolate covered strawberries? What is a good wine to go with milk chocolate and dark chocolate covered strawberries? I'm not looking for a cheap wine... I'm willing to spend more than $20... yay for valentine's day! I just don't drink wine, so I don't know. Thanks!! I'll drink wine if it's given, i just don't know about types....
Best wine to give parents as a gift? My parents collect wine from their trips they take (japan, germany, australia, califorinia, carnival cruises, etc.) I bought them a wine rack for xmas and would like to buy them each a bottle of wine. However I know NOTHING when it comes to wine. What is a decent wine to give as a xmas gift, My dad is big into harleys and collects harley things also so I may get him a bottle of "v-twin zin" which is put out by harley davidson. But any ideas of what to get for my mom? I want something different not just a plain wine.

Correct wine etiquette when hosting an informal dinner? We have been out for dinner to 3 people's houses in the past month, and each time we take a nice mid-priced bottle of wine. On all three occasions during the evening the hosts have brought out another bottle they already had, and put ours away. Once we went back to one couple's house (again taking a bottle of wine) and they brought out the bottle of wine we had taken last week (and put our new bottle away)! If I was hosting a dinner evening I would immediately open the bottle of wine my guests had brought, assuming that is the wine they prefer and would like to drink here. So my question is: What is the etiquette relating to this? The selection of wine for the particular meal isn't the issue as usually we are drinking rum & cokes, black russians, beer and other stuff as well. Thanks
Wine tester or taster? Check this composition and explain the mistakes.? My dream job -since I was a little kid- was to be a wine taster. Can you imagine drinking all day long and being paid for it? I think that would be wonderful! If I was a wine taster, I'm sure that I would wake up very happily each morning to go to work, maybe a little sick but every good job has its sacrifices. Other benefit of this job is that I could work at home, watching TV or reading a book, only giving my opinion on which wine I like and which wine I dislike. I wish some day I could work as a wine taster in another country of course because if I work here I think I will die of cirrhosis or hepatitis in less than a month. In Chile, it would be a pleasure to work more and more...and one day, who knows? Maybe travel to other continents and keep working until be what I had always dreamed about: The best-paid drunk!!
White wine vs. red wine? I always hear about the benefits about having a class of red wine each day, but I haven't heard anything about potential benefits of white wine. (This is a little disappointing, as I tend to prefer white) I took a tour of a winery and I believe they mentioned something about red wines initially being the same color as white wines? So my question is... what makes red wines healthier than white?
Wine Drinking. What's a good wine to start with? My husband and I have decided we would like to start drinking wine occasionally. Not like socially or to get drunk. We're thinking maybe once or twice a week with dinner. We know that red wine goes with meat and white with fish and chicken. My question is, what's a good white wine to begin with? We don't want something that stinks of alcohol. We'd prefer something sweet and that has a nice taste to it. Same question for red wine.
wine is it true u need to get used to the taste? i like alcoholic drinks, anything beer, vodca, whisky, anything strong or soft but for some reason i hate wine... but usually all the fine event involve wine. romantic dinners they all usually involve wine. And i hate that when im offered wine i say no that i prefer beer. my boyfiends loves wine and i wana like it too. so is it true that u just have to get uysed to the taste or if i dont like it there is no way i will ever like it? im sorry if this seems like a stupid question it might be but i honetly wana know....
Wine Tasting...........................? Has anyone ever been to a wine tasting event?? Or given a wine tasting?? If so, did you have extensive knowledge about wines. I'm thinking of becoming a wine consultant part-time, and I'm currently reading about wines. Just looking for ideas, knowledge, info, anything helpful.
Best wine for braising pork? I have a recipe for braising pork that says to use "red" wine. I am not savvy on wines at all, so I have no idea what type of red wine to use for best results. The recipe is pretty basic (pork shoulder, potatoes, carrots, onions, garlic, wine and stock) so I'm guessing the wine plays a pretty significant role in the flavor of the dish. That's why I didn't want to just randomly pick one at the store. Does anyone have some suggestions on what type of red wine would work best for this dish? Thanks. Just to clarify, I do not need particular brands, I need types. I'm going to use whatever brand the grocery store happens to have that's a decent price.
Wine drinkers how much wine do you drink at a meal.? How often do you drink wine every day? How much wine is it socially acceptable to drink at a meal? Do you drink anything else with the meal or just the wine? How long should a wine bottle last for one person a week or less?
Why does cheap Gallo wine get snubbed by wine drinkers? Is there something I'm missing here? I've been a wine drinker for 3 decades. I spent thousands a year searching and buying, then cosuming fine wines from around the world. Many have been wonderful. Now the Gallo wine I am sipping tonight is probably the first time in 15 plus years I've drank anything under a $20 bottle. This one happen to be $6. (long story how I got stuck with it) The bottle to be specific is Gallo Twin Family Merlot. So my point is, the wine is noty half bad. In fact it is a little on the "good" side. If I were drinking this wine blind and did not know I would have rated it a C+, perhaps even a B-, something less then 10% of the wines I taste achieve. So why do wine drinker laugh and joke about Gallo? Is it just pure snubbery? Ya sure I kjnow, it's not the best stuff in the world, but if you're in a pinch it will do, trust me. Am I the only serious wine drinker who feels this way?
Wine making Questions...? Wine Making Question..? I used this web-site to make wine. http://www.warpbreach.com/6/6.html... Im just starting out and wanted to get a idea of what to do. Can red wine cause strange hangovers? I have noticed over the past few months that when I drink one or two glasses of red wine in the evening, the following day I feel sort of weak and dizzy, almost faint. In fact, I did faint one day following a night of consuming 3 glasses of red wine this summer. It seems there is a correlation between my drinking red wine and feeling strange the next day, but not the common "wine" headache or anything. I just started to drink red wine this summer, so I can't say I have ever had a reaction in the past from drinking it. Has anyone heard of this before? Is this a wine allergy? Or can red wine just cause strange hangovers?
Wedding Speech - Wine as the Metaphor? I'm working on a wedding speech for a friend. Both my friend and future bride are wine obsessed. The love wine, drink wine, talk wine.... I want to write a speech using wine as the metaphor. My friends are not wine snobs, they are the first to admit... If a $6 bottle of wine is good for you, thats all the matters. Does anyone have any ideas or cool suggestions for metaphors to be used.....or how I could incorporate this idea into my speech. Thank
Wine to dinner? If we have guests over, and they bring wine, do we need
