Dry White Wine Questions
Dry white wine for making risotto? I'm making a risotto milanese. The recipe specifies I should use a dry white wine. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what kind of wine specifically I should get? I never drink white wines and so I'm white wine clueless! I don't want to spend a whole lot of money; I'm cooking with it, after all. Any advice is great! Thanks everyone! I ended up with a 10 dollar pinot grigio (that actually came from Italy, wonder of wonders). It seemed like a good compromise. I don't drink much white wine (just red), so thanks for all your suggestions. :)
What exactly is dry white wine? I know this may seem like a silly question.... but I have never purchased nor consumed any sort of alcohol in my life, so I am clueless. A recipe I am making calls for "dry white wine" but I have no idea where to find this among all the wine at the store! None of the labels flat out say "dry white wine" so how do I know what to get? Thanks :-) P.S. I cannot just ask for help as I am not 21 so won't be able to purchase it anyway. I have to send my husband to get it (which is ridiculous, considering I'm using it for cooking and am not going to consume it sraight *sigh*) But rules are rules!
Substitute for dry white wine? Yeah, I'm looking for a good substitute for "Dry White Wine" ? I've heard people recommending "White Grape Juice" or "Sherry Wine". Do any of you agree with em'? My dish i'm cooking is: "Cockles and Mussels"!!!
If a recipe asks for "dry white wine" which one do YOU use? There are so many wines out there, I'm not much of a wine drinker, and I just don't know which one to use. Thanks, so much, in advance. Too many good answers to try to pick one to give points to. I'm going to experiment with all of them! (I'll leave the voting up to those who know more than I.) Thank you all so very much!!! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving and God Bless!
What is a dry white table wine? I see chardonay and chablis on the shelves at the store but nothing labeled dry white table wine. Is either chardonay or chablis considered dry white table wine?

Dry white wine? I have some great recipes that call for dry white wine.I'm a recovering alchoholic and don't want to take the chance with having alcohol in the house. Please give me some great substitutions that I could use , that would not alter the taste. Thanks in advance for your help.
Very dry white wine? I'm entertaining dinner for friends this Friday. Somebody likes to drink very dry white wine. Don't know anything about very dry white wine. What does it taste like? How is different from Chardonnay?
URGENT Can I substitute "Very Dry Sherry" for "Dry White Wine" in a recipe?!? Help!! Thanks :) If it makes a difference, the recipe is for sauteed chicken breasts and the amount of wine called for is 1/2 cup. ANSWER QUICKLY PLEASE!! Thank you!! :) The recipe says "Dry white wine or vermouth" what's vermouth?? Thanks :) I ended up just substituting chicken broth, but thank you all for the help! :)
Suggestions for an inexpensive off-dry white wine for the girl? The girl doesn't like dry wine (or reds in general). I have experience with (and love the taste of) reds and dry whites, but very little knowledge of off-dry whites. I want to buy a bottle to go with a nice dinner I'm making, but I don't want to spend more than $20 on it. This is primarily to see if there's something out there she'd enjoy. Any suggestions? (And please no white zinf, I want something a bit classier. It's always a fall-back, of course, but I'd rather stay faaaar away from it.)
Good substitute for dry white wine? I'm making a wild mushroom soup that calls for 1/2 cup of dry white wine. I'm not 21 yet so I won't be able to purchase alcohol. Either way though, I'd much rather have something else because my younger brother might have some as well. Anyone know is good substitute? I've heard white grape juice but is that good? ...especially since this dish is more savoury than sweet? Any suggestions will be great! Thanks much! :) Thanks guys, yeah I heard chicken broth would work fine so thanks for confirming...ok...I'm off to Trader Joe's! Ciao!
